• General: Asbestos testing and/or abatement (removal) projects may be requested by various sectors and units within the University. Such projects must be performed by trained, certified personnel and are managed by the Environmental Management Department.
• Only trained, certified people should handle or remove asbestos-containing materials. Unauthorized or uncontrolled disturbance of asbestos materials is a violation of UK policy and can lead to civil or criminal liability. If you have any questions about whether a material may contain asbestos, contact Environmental Management or consult our web page.
• Contact Environmental Management at the phone number listed above to request asbestos services.
• Requests should include:
  • specific service being requested
  • location or project area
  • site contact
  • reason for the request
  • timeframe or schedule needed
  • account number to be charged 
• If asbestos abatement is authorized, Environmental Management will provide sufficient documentation for the unit to formally authorize the abatement.

  Depending on the location and scope of the abatement project, the requesting unit may be responsible for removing furniture or other items from the area in question, disconnecting utilities to affected building components, or other tasks to prepare for the abatement work.
