RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. HALL DIRECTOR
    1. Train Resident Advisors and Staff Assistants/Desk Clerks on the Fire/Life Safety Regulations and Policies, emergency procedures, and general safety requirements. Refer to training outline.
    2. Ensure that the Resident Advisors train the occupants of their floors.
    3. Implement Fire/Life Safety Regulations and Policies.
    4. Conduct and evaluate fire drills.
    5. Ensure that all fire alarms are immediately reported to the U.K. Police.
    6. Ensure that reports on all fire drills are sent to the University Fire Marshal (within 48 hours following event).
    7. Report all discharged fire extinguishers to the University Fire Marshal.
    8. Report all general safety deficiencies to the Office of Occupational Health & Safety.
    9. Ensure all accident reports are sent to the Office of Occupational Health & Safety. You can also find the Accident Form 6 on their web site (http://ehs.uky.edu/ohs/form6.html).
  2. RESIDENT ADVISOR
    1. Ensure the evacuation plan is accurate, posted and all occupants understand the evacuation procedures.
    2. Instruct everyone on the floor on the proper method of turning in alarms and the location of the fire equipment.
    3. Report deficiencies in fire drills to the Hall Director.
    4. Ensure all passageways and exits are kept clear at all times and fire doors to stairs are normally closed.
    5. In the event of a fire alarm, but only if conditions permit, check each room to ensure all occupants have evacuated.
    6. After evacuating the building, report the status of the floor to the Hall Director.
    7. Assist the Hall Director in the implementation of the Fire/Life Safety Regulations and Policies, emergency procedures, and general safety requirements.
